1.                  Flame – Gases released by burning

If you touch the flame, you will be burned.

2.                  Combustion – Burning

Rapid combustion is almost like an explosion.

3.                  Explosion – Rapid change of state

When an explosion takes place, energy is released.

4.                  Highlight – Bright spot

I can see the highlight in his eye.

5.                  Cornucopia – Horn of plenty

Our class drew and colored a large cornucopia.

6.                  Berries – Small, round fruit of a plant

Don’t eat those berries because they might be poisonous.

7.                  Basket – Woven container with a handle

She gathered the eggs and put them in her basket.

8.                  Tendril – Shoot, small grasping, vine-like part

One tendril was wound around the water pipe.

9.                  Squash – Edible fruit of the gourd family

Pumpkin is a squash I love to eat.

10.             Gourd – Inedible, hard shelled, squash-like vegetable

It looked edible but its skin was dry and hard as a rock.

11.             Extremity – The farthest part, an extension

His right lower extremity was injured in the fall.

12.             Chevron – A “v” shaped emblem

The sergeant had a chevron on his sleeve.

13.             Husk – A fibrous covering

We stripped the husk off of the corn cob.

14.             Interior – The inner part

The interior was much cleaner than I expected.

15.             Edifice – A building, a memorial

That edifice was built as a memorial to his father.

16.             Vile – Awful, foul

What kind of vile liquid is in that container?

17.             Arrangement – A plan, a deal

Our arrangement was to meet here tomorrow after school.

18.             Cluster – A tight group

I cut a cluster of grapes from the vine in the garden.

19.             Bunch – Several of something together

If you bunch together, you can keep each other warmer.

20.             Repulsive – Offensive, ugly

The repulsive reptile slithered off into a deep hole.
