1.            Astute – Clear thinking, smart

   She is so astute that she never seems to miss anything.

2.            Devious – Sneaky, dishonest

         If they think you are devious, you will never be trusted.

3.            Hamper – Hinder, interfere

        The last thing I want to do is to hamper your efforts.

4.            Pungent – Sharp, unpleasant smell

        The pungent odor drove us all from the room.

5.            Disregard – Ignore

        If you disregard the warning you may be injured.

6.            Falter – Slow or stop, weaken

        Those who falter cannot win races.

7.            Subtle – slight, hard to see

        The difference was so subtle I could hardly tell them apart

8.            Edible – May be eaten

        I suppose it is edible, but it may give you a belly ache.

9.            Dearth – Lack of

        The has been a complete dearth of good news lately.

10.       Idiosyncrasy – a special or unique behavior

        Popping your knuckles is an irritating idiosyncrasy.

11.       Shrewd – Wise, very careful

        If you are shrewd, you can get one of those for yourself.

12.       Shifty – Untrustworthy, tricky

        He is shifty and no one wants to work with him.

13.       Deceitful – Dishonest, not truthful

        The store owner was deceitful and eventually went of business.

14.       Restrict – Limit, forbid

        My mother is threatening to restrict my television.

15.       Impede – Block, put up roadblocks

        The police are going to impede traffic at that intersection.

16.       Neglect – Not take care of, harm

        Don’t neglect your health because being health is so important.

17.       Waver – Go back and forth, not decide

        If you waver, you will never get another chance to decide.

18.       Hesitate – Not move, wait briefly

        Please hesitate for just a moment so I can get ready.

19.       Scarcity – Something rare or uncommon

        Gold is a scarcity and that makes it valuable.

20.       Peculiarity – Odd behavior, unusual characteristic

        His peculiarity of sneezing loudly disturbs our class.
