1. Goblin - An ugly sprite that is mischievous or even evil
The goblin in the story seemed very real.
2. Costume - An outfit worn to create a certain appearance
She was wearing a fantastic costume.
3. Custom - A long-established practice considered as unwritten law
It is our custom for males not to wear hats inside.
4. Holiday - A day without work in honor of an event
We are all looking forward to the Thanksgiving holiday.
5. Celebration - To observe a holiday or take part in a festival
They put on a 4th of July celebration that was incredible.
6. Observance - A practice, rite, or ceremony
Veteran’s Day is an observance I never miss.
7. Masquerade – A party where people wear masks and fantastic costumes
If you come to the masquerade, make sure you can’t be recognized.
8. Tradition - A customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior
We all probably have a favorite tradition our family honors every year.
9. History - A record of significant events in the order they took place
History tells us where we come from and how we got here.
10. Culture - The shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices of a group
I can see your culture is a little different than mine.
11. Route - An established or selected course of travel
They always take the route through the mountains.
12. Path – A trodden way or track specially constructed for a particular use
The path has not been used for several months.
13. Road - An open way for vehicles, persons, and animals
That little road only allows one way traffic.
14. Highway - A main direct road
The highway was smooth and straight for miles.
15. Freeway - An expressway with fully controlled access
There is no cross traffic or stoplights on a freeway.
16. Avenue - A broad street or road bordered by trees
It was a beautiful, wide avenue in the center of town.
17. Boulevard - A broad often landscaped thoroughfare
The parade went down the main boulevard in the city.
18. Way - A thoroughfare for travel or transportation from place to place
The farmer lives on a way that connects the two towns.
19. Thoroughfare - A street open at both ends
That street is a main thoroughfare in Los Angeles.
20. Passage - A road, path, or channel by which something passes
The sailors entered the passage on their way up to the ship’s deck.
21. Molasses - Thick dark to light brown syrup separated from raw sugar
My grandmother used molasses on pancakes instead of maple syrup.
22. Treacle – A thick sweet syrup used in England called golden syrup
My friend is from Britain and he always asks if we have any treacle.
23. Syrup – A thickened sweet liquid made from common sugars
We didn’t have any molasses so Mom boiled some sugar to make syrup.
24. Maple – A tree which has a sap or juice that can be made into syrup
I don’t like pancakes unless we have plenty of maple syrup.
