1.       Developing – Emerging, Growing, becoming

        El Salvador is a rapidly developing country.

2.       Economy – Businesses, commerce

        The U. S. Economy went down hill after the 911 attacks.

3.       Characterized – Defined, shown to be, described as

        Our country is characterized by a fairly high standard of living.

4.       Facilities – Locations with certain services

        The company is looking for a vacation retreat with lots of facilities.

5.       Tourist – A visitor and traveler

        Many Central American countries depend on tourists for jobs.

6.       Disparities – Differences, levels

        There are great disparities between the wealthiest and poorest.

7.       Frequented – often visited

         I have always frequented this store because it’s near the beach.

8.   Accord – Agreement

        I think we are in accord and can go ahead and sign the papers.

9.   Conflict – Fighting, was

        We thought the conflict was over but then the fighting started again.

10.   Violent – Harsh, sudden, ruthless

        The storm was violent and very destructive.

11.   Concern – A care, something to worry about

        That family left a legacy of crime and fear in our neighborhood.

        We are lucky to have an abundance of water this year.

        The judicial system just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

         My aunt lives in a rural area of farms and lakes.       

20.   Urban – Cities, populated areas

         The urban crisis gets worse as the population grows.

21.   Provoke – Bring out, anger

         Are you deliberately trying to provoke me?

22.   Corruption – Bribery, payoffs, crooked officials

         Corruption can destroy a society as quickly as a plague.

23.   Bribes – Money paid to officials to get special treatment

         They used bribes to get him better food while he was in prison.

24.   Graft – Payoffs, Criminal corruption

          Graft is a problem that eventually hurts everyone.

25.   Infrastructure – Structures men build for business and travel to take place

          The infrastructure of Costa Rica was severely damaged by a hurricane.
