1.            Doubt – To wonder, to not be sure

I really doubt that you can jump as high as you say you can.

2.            Terrace – A patio, a raised, flat area

We sat on a beautiful terrace overlooking the harbor.

3.            Polite – Showing good manners, considerate

You know that I am always very polite.

4.            Drifted – Allowed to move with the current

The boat drifted with the current away from land.

5.            Butcher – Cut up, slaughter

That is the first time I’ve seen someone butcher a fish.

6.            Marlin – A large, deep sea fish

The marlin was huge and burst out of the water.

7.            Stagger – To walk unsteadily

The basket is so heavy that it makes me stagger.

8.            Cove – A curved, protected coastal area

Inside the harbor was a small cove with a white sand beach.

9.            Block – Part of ropes and pulleys to lift heavy objects

They used a block and tackle to lift the motor.

10.       Tackle – Parts of the ropes and pulleys used to lift objects

The tackle made a creaking sound as they pulled on the ropes.

11.       Hides – The skins of animals

They stacked the hides up on the wagon.

12.       Harbor – An area of coast protected from the sea

The harbor is full of boats and has a small opening to the sea.

13.       Odor- A smell or stink

The odor of fish from the factory was powerful and unpleasant.

14.       Smell – To have an odor, stink

He had the smell of fish on his hands and clothing.

15.       Cuba – Island nation south of Florida

Cuba is a small, island nation in the Caribbean Sea

16.       Haul – Carry or transport

Is your boat big enough to carry all these fish?

17.       Faint – Slight, Hard to see

The boat was just a faint dot on the horizon.

18.       Plank – A wide, wooden board

They place the fish meat on a wide plank.

19.       Beer – An alcoholic beverage made from grain

The boy went and got a beer for the old fisherman.

20.       Bank – A steep piece of land along the shoreline

We had trouble climbing up the steep bank to the road.
