Note: When shooting in an open desert area, all participants wear (carry) a loaded firearm at all times in
addition to the one being used. The shooting area is selected to permit observation of anyone
approaching from a distance. The reason: two armored car robbers in Florida killed severalFBI agents (4/11/86) in a shootout with weapons suspected to have been stolen from shooters who were killed
for their weapons after being stalked by the criminals and followed into isolated areas. (see text below)
Caution is always advised. Approaching a party shooting in an isolated area is not recommended.
If a vehicle approaches, our drill is for one person to stand, and remain, behind a vehicle with a loaded 12 gauge
shotgun with #4 buck until signaled to stand down. There is a pre-arranged warning signal and
signal to engage the stranger. The same signals are used when traveling as a family.
